Get started

Build your first game

To turn your rules into a game other people can play, you create the game and make one turn playable. Then you add what players read, commit a version and invite testers. Each section below links to the guide with the steps. You do not have to write code: a coding agent can write it from your rules.

Choose how you will build

Decide who writes the game's code. A coding agent, such as Claude or ChatGPT Codex, can write it from your rules and art. See Connect a coding agent. You can also write the code yourself on the Code page. See Edit game files.

Create the game

Create the game in the Studio, or ask your agent to create it. See Create a game.

Make one turn playable

Start small: make one player able to take one turn. Then open Preview to play it as each player. See Preview a game. Save a position you want to test again as a checkpoint. See Save and restore a checkpoint.

The framework docs describe the files your game needs. Start with Build a game for the stable framework, or Build a game for framework v3.

Add what players see and read

Add the images for your pieces and boards on the Art page. See Manage artwork. Write the rules pages that teach your game. See Edit the rules pages. Set the cover, logo and description that players see before they play. See Edit the game page.

Commit a version

Players never play your working files. They play a version, which you make with a commit. See Commit a game version.

Invite testers

Invite people to play your version. See Invite collaborators and playtesters and Run a private playtest. To choose what testers answer after a match, see Create a feedback form.
